Adam Simmonds today met with the Secretary of State for Justice, Michael Gove, in London to discuss the future of the policing and criminal justice system and the role of Police and Crime Commissioners.
“I believe that greater responsibility and powers at local level in the criminal justice system can only enhance the service we are able to provide for our residents,” said Commissioner Simmonds following the meeting.
“The Government is keen to devolve more and more central government control to local communities which could potentially bring additional funding to Northamptonshire.
“I spoke with Michael Gove at length about what we have managed to do in the county and about what more we could do with additional powers and funding. He was keen to hear my thoughts and I have certainly put forward our case on a number of issues.”
